Freunde der LSE e.V.

Dear Alumnae, dear Alumni, dear Friends,

Berlin, the capital and largest city of Germany by both area and population, is a world city of culture, politics, media and science. Its economy is based on high-tech firms and the service sector, encompassing a diverse range of creative industries, research facilities and media corporations. Berlin has a popular and growing start-up scene and is a centre of innovation and research for future concepts such as connected mobility, climate change reduction, intelligent energy provisioning. During this year’s annual meeting we will not only look at some of Berlin’s major sights but also explore an intelligent city of tomorrow.

On Saturday afternoon, we will visit the EUREF Campus, an innovation and research centre of major companies (e.g. Deutsche Bahn), start-up firms and governmental institutions.

After learning about the campus’s history and development we will gain insights into the energy, mobility and virtual reality areas of the campus. The afternoon will end with a coffee break at the Energy Factory.

In the evening, we will enjoy a reception and dinner at the prestigious Berlin Capital Club located above the roof tops of Berlin’s beautiful square Gendarmenmarkt. During the dinner Professor Michael Cox from the LSE will discuss "Can the West survive the Populist Challenge?"

On Sunday, we will explore the parliament district and the Reichstag, the seat of the German parliament. During the visit we learn about the district’s development, the building’s history and the practice of the current government. We will also enjoy the panoramic view over East and West Berlin from the terrace or the dome of the 53-meter high building. We finish the event with a lunch at the restaurant Borchardt at Gendarmenmarkt.

We cordially invite you and your partner to the annual meeting. Our programme is:
