About the event
Dear Alumnae, dear Alumni, dear Friends,
Berlin, Germany’s capital and largest city by both area and population, is a world city of culture, politics, media and science. Its economy is based on high-tech firms and the service sector, encompassing a diverse range of creative industries, research facilities and media corporations. Berlin continues to be Germany’s start-up capital and is a centre of innovation and research for future concepts such as connected mobility, climate change reduction, intelligent energy provisioning. During this year’s annual meeting we will not only dive into Berlin’s start-up scene but also learn about the 44 years of political prosecution in the GDR.
On Saturday afternoon, we will visit the Memorial Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, the former GDR Stasi prison. Contemporary witnesses will give us an authentic impression of the prison conditions between 1946 and 1990. You are welcome to explore the permanent exhibition “Witness of Political Prosecution” showing 300 photos and nearly 500 artefacts.
In the evening, we will enjoy a reception and dinner at the prestigious Berlin Capital Club located above the roof tops of the Berlin’s beautiful “Gendarmenmarkt” square. During the dinner LSE Professor Kristina Spohr, one of the leading experts on security architecture post 1989 and the author of a landmark biography of former chancellor Helmut Schmidt, will give us her interpretation of the revolutionary upheaval of 1989 and its impact on later development from post-Wall peace to the current conflicts.
On Sunday, we will jointly kick off a series of start-up events called “Social Innovation Trek” hosted by LSE Generate taking place from 11th September to 14th September with a panel of LSE Alumni Start-up Entrepreneurs at INOSPACE at betahaus in Kreuzberg.
We cordially invite you and your partner to the annual meeting with the programme you see below.
