Many thanks to all ~100 attendees, speakers and academics for making the 40th anniversary celebration of the German Friends of LSE - Freunde der LSE e.V. such a tremendous success!
As Prof. Michael Cox aptly put it, “You really brought the LSE to Berlin!”
The afternoon program on 19 October began with a lecture by Prof. Sönke Neitzel, Chair of War Studies at the University of Potsdam, who discussed the consequences of the war in Ukraine on German and European security policy.
Following a guided tour of the AXICA building, we continued with a panel discussion chaired by Prof. Michael Cox, Founding Director of LSE IDEAS and Emeritus Professor of International Relations at LSE. The topic was “Rethinking the Transatlantic Relationship After Trump.” The panelists included Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook, Senior Advisor at the Bertelsmann Foundation; Prof. Maximilian Mayer from the University of Bonn, Center for Advanced Security, Strategic, and Integration Studies; and Magnus Obermann, a PhD student at Cambridge University.
We enjoyed an evening dinner at the Berlin Capital Club with Professor Larry Kramer, President and Vice Chancellor of The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and Lady Dahrendorf, wife of Lord Ralf Dahrendorf, the initiator of our German alumni association.
On Sunday, 20 October, we spent a sunny day exploring the beautiful city of Potsdam.
Thanks again to all of you!
